The final of Copa America is on Sunday and Brazil has beaten Argentina twice in a row in the final. Argentina won once against Brazil.
Brazil was the first to qualify for the final this year after beating Peru 1-0. The match saw the sending off of Gabriel Jesus for a red card. He will miss the final.
After the win, Neymar was saying he wants to face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the Copa America final.
“I want Argentina, I’m rooting for Argentina,” says Neymar.
Neymar is a former Barcelona team-mate of Messi .–
“I have friends there, then in the final, it will be Brazil [laughs].” Meaning to say Brazil will win the final.
The defending champions have their wish come true. Argentina beat Columbia on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the other semi-final.
Brazil was the first winner of Copa America in 1919 but Argentina won the trophy 14 times. Brazil won it 9 times.
Brazil and Argentina met three times in the final of the Copa. The first time was in 1937. Argentina won the match by 2-0.
They met again twice consecutively in 2004 and 2007. In 2004, the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Brazil won on penalties, 4-2.
In 2007, Brazil imposed their charm outright, beating Argentina 3-0.
The final will be played in an empty Maracana due to health protocols.
