Najib Has 14 Days To Apply For Pardon

Though the ex-PM Najib Razak has been adamant – in the past – and rejected the idea of a pardon for his crimes, he still has 14 days to apply for a pardon that will see his sentencing and fines remitted, suspended, or commuted.

This power can only be exercised by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after being consulted or being recommended by the Pardons Board which consists of the attorney general, the federal territories minister, and three other members appointed by the Agong, who presides over the board.

There is no time limit for the application of pardons and there is no limit to the number of times one can file a petition for pardon but in Najib’s case, he has to do it within 14 days in order not to lose his status as Pekan MP, a seat he has held since 1976.

“But for Najib’s case, if he does not do it within 14 days, he will lose his status as MP under Article 48
