Singapore has been known by its neighbours for reclaiming land for all types of usage. Their first successful massive land reclamation project was the Marine Parade HDB project all the way back in 1973. Since then, there have been numerous projects involving land reclamation.

As we all know, Singapore is a small country and land is scarce. Hence property values are one of the highest in the world, especially for landed properties. According to a YouTuber, Singapore imported $100 million worth of sand for land reclamation and other purposes.

Sand mining in Riau had caused their lush beaches into rocky ocean fronts, which affected tourism in the local area.‘Sand Wars’ this term was coined back in the early 2000s when Indonesia accused suppliers stealing sand from the Riau islands and selling them to Singapore.
