A tragedy struck in our neighbouring country, Indonesia, where a stampede happened during a soccer game which led to 100 deaths. The saddest part of the situation was when the police used tear gas to ‘calm’ the spectators down.

According to some Twitter users, the approximate death toll is at 182. The Indonesian police are being criticised for not following protocol with regards to handling a situation like this. Netizens claim that due to the police brutality, more people died.

The BBC stated that 42,000 tickets were sold for the match and the stadium was able to handle only 38,000 spectators. This disaster is regarded as one of the worst stadium disasters. Indonesian President Jokowi has stated that all football matches are to be paused until a full investigation is done.
