According to Sotheby’s, a rare pink diamond sold in Hong Kong for nearly US$58 million (S$83 million), setting a record for price per carat paid at auction for any diamond or gemstone.

Sotheby’s added that the 11.15- carat Williamson Pink Star fetched US$57.7 million on Friday, the second-highest price paid at auction for any jewel.

The winning bid, made by an unnamed buyer from Boca Raton, Florida, was more than twice the estimated sale price of US$21 million. Wow pink diamond!
