Some MPs are ringing the alarm bell over the Budget 2023 because the Minister of Finance is pinning great hope on the petroleum company’s dividend in his budget proposal.
Referring to the budget’s expectation of an RM35 billion dividend to the government from Petronas, ex-second finance minister Johari Abdul Ghani (Umno) says the government needed to have a contingency plan in case this (the Petronas dividends) did not work out.
This concern was echoed by Parti Keadilan Rakyat MP Fahmi Fadzil who says the RM35b is expected in 2023 – will that really be the case, he asked in a statement to a Singapore-based paper.
