Umno is not in a hurry to tie the knot with the PAS this time around as such a pact is looking increasingly unlikely, says a Singapore paper, adding that this may potentially split Malay votes in the upcoming GE expected to take place in November.
Umno seems to be closing its door on cooperation with PAS despite an existing pact between them while the PAS is adamant it will not severe ties with the Perikatan Nasional as sentiments runs high within the Islamic party.
The PN with TS Muhyiddin Yassin as the leader brought the PAS into power in Putrajaya, giving them seats in the Cabinet and they find it tough to cut such ties. Thus, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin on Monday said that Umno is set to clash with PAS in at least 27 federal seats.
