Just as Singapore is set to table bills to revoke the ban on sex between men and amend the constitution to protect the definition of marriage, the country banned a local gay-themed film that it says ‘denigrates a religious community’ and has the ‘potential to cause enmity and social division.’
While Singapore is proceeding with the repeal of the act that bans gay sex probably under pressure from Nancy Pelosi and the fear of losing business, the country does not seem too happy with gay films.
The reason for the ban, as explained by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, is that people in Singapore may draw connections with the movie. “The context may be seen to be suggesting or encouraging violence against (a) pastor.” People may think the pastor in the movie is a real-life pastor in Singapore.
