Following reports that the Singapore Coast Guard has been chasing Malaysian fishermen away from Malaysian territorial waters, the Singapore Police Force issued a public statement to refute the claims, adding that the incident happened in Singapore waters.
But reports say the Malaysian fishermen were chased away from Malaysian territorial waters while trying to fish.
Prior to the SPF statement, online reports claimed that a group of ten Malaysian fishermen were chased away by Singaporean authorities while setting up shrimp nets in the Pasir Laba area, near the Second Link Bridge, Iskandar Puteri, at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday.
The fishermen lodged a police report via their representatives on Monday (Oct 24) after the verbal altercation with the Singapore Coast Guard that had gone viral on social media Sunday (Oct 25) evening.
