Barisan Nasional Loses Elections But Did Not Concede Defeat

1 min read

The Barisan Nasional leader scraped through in his seat winning with a tight margin after a tough fight in Bagan Datuk but the party lost its Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and popular Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin in tight races won by Anwar Ibrahim’s PKR in Kuala Selangor and in Sungai Buloh respectively.

In a statement, Umno leader Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the results are a sign to BN which is committed to establishing a “stable government”, and it is “ready to set aside [its] previous difference in sentiment”. But Zahid did not concede defeat though his head is now a target and the party would surely want answers from him.

It also plays up its connections to East Malaysian parties, saying it is ready to “be a bridge” between Sabah and Sarawak. So far, neither the PH which has 82 seats nor the PN, 73 seats, are able to form a government and none has mentioned whether the BN will be part of an eventual government headed by one of the two largest coalitions in the Parliament.
