In an attempt to enlarge the potential expansion of US military access to military bases in the Philippines, the Joe Biden administration is pressing Manilla to allow it to ‘monitor’ potential flashpoints in the South China Sea and around Taiwan.
Lloyd Austin, US defense secretary is meeting with the Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr to strike a deal that would allow US access to military bases for “light and flexible” operations, not permanent bases with large numbers of troops stationed.
