Erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra and Cialis may lower the risk of heart problems and heart disease-related deaths, according to a new study published in Science Advances.
The research, conducted by the Huntington Medical Research Institute and the University of California San Francisco, analyzed data from 2006 to 2020 from American private insurance and Medicare claims.
The results showed that compared to men who did not take ED medication, those who took PDE-5i drugs had a 17% lower rate of heart failure, a 15% lower need for angioplasty or heart stints, and a 39% lower rate of death from heart disease. However, more research is needed to fully understand the link between ED drugs and heart health.
