Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, Fahmi Fadzil, has called for immediate investigation into a Facebook post made by user Sam MY. The post is alleged to have defamed the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anuar Ibrahim.

While some citizens view this move by Fahmi as a positive step in addressing online misconduct, others express concerns that it may be perceived as a restriction on freedom of speech. The call for investigation by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has sparked a debate among netizens about the balance between protecting public figures and safeguarding freedom of speech.
Netizens agreed that the Minister should file a police report as it would curb the amount of misinformation spreading about our political leaders. Others came down hard on Sam MY stating that he should be more respectful and not randomly spouting misinformation online.

Some online commenters claim that members of an Islamic party in the country are not intimidated by the threat of bankruptcy or fines for spreading misinformation. One netizen suggested that these individuals should reconsider their actions and be guided by a sense of piety.
