A mystery man, a Pakistani businessman, donated $30 million to help the victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria.
The anonymous donor made the contribution at the Turkish embassy in the United States, and although his identity is unknown, his act of kindness has been praised by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who wrote in a tweet that the donation is a “magnificent act of compassion.”
The earthquake, which hit southern Turkiye and northern Syria on February 6, has caused significant damage and left over 27,000 dead and 85,000 injured. The UN warns that at least 870,000 people in the two countries need food aid following the disaster.
