The Kapar MP Dr Halimah Ali made a passionate plea in the Dewan Rakyat, urging the current government not to feed the people with cheap food and listed one of the reason for her plea is that people from some segment of the population can contract ‘autism‘ through unsafe and cheap quality food.
The reasoning is illogical because there is no evidence that suggests eating a certain food that we consume as humans will result in the sickness. Research also tells us that many individuals with the sickness tend to have strong preferences for carbohydrates and processed foods, while rejecting fruits and vegetables. This, too, may reflect an aversion to strong tastes and textures. But not the other way round.
