Singapore Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen cautioned on the possibility of physical conflicts arising even when parties don’t intend for them at the 59th Munich Security Conference on Feb. 18.

Ng raised concerns on the inevitability of physical conflict between the U.S. and China and how it may trigger a war, despite both President Biden and China’s Xi Jin Ping stating they do not want a war in Asia.
Former Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) Commander ADM(Rtd) Phillip S. Davidson also testified in 2021 that a war may occur within six years, citing Taiwan as the trigger. Ng emphasized the need for diplomacy and de-escalation to avoid conflicts.
