Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani is the frontrunner to acquire Manchester United, ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Thani’s Nine Two Foundation representatives are scheduled to meet with the club’s executives this week.

Glazers prefer Sheikh Jassim over Jim Ratcliffe

The Glazers reportedly favour Sheikh Jassim for his potential to bring business opportunities to the American owners in his region. Meanwhile, Ratcliffe, Ineos owner and Britain’s richest person, has yet to earn the Glazers’ support. Thani aims to buy 100% of United without incurring debt, while Ratcliffe seeks the Glazers’ 69% share, possibly using investment.

Other undisclosed groups are also interested. Elliott Investment Management is open to financing a buyer, but not purchasing the club themselves. Uefa’s President, Aleksander Ceferin, hinted that rules barring clubs with the same owners from participating in the same European competition may change.
