Manchester City continued their dominance over Burnley with a six-goal win, despite Vincent Kompany’s transformation of the Clarets into a more exciting and free-wheeling team. With promotion virtually guaranteed for Burnley, Kompany faced a stark reality check as his side struggled against City’s quality.

Manchester City’s flagship player, Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne shone, demonstrating that Burnley needed more than work rate and positional play to compete with the Premier League champions. Despite their impressive scoring rate and defensive record in the Championship, Burnley failed to capitalise on City’s mistakes, with former Dyche-era players watching from the bench.

Kompany’s tactical approach to contain Manchester City’s by going man-to-man proved ineffective against the elite side. He advised Haaland to adjust his role, positioning himself closer to the last defender rather than playing deeper as he had been in the opening phase.
