Lim Guan Eng, the National Chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), has warned Muhyiddin Yassin, the Chairman of the National Alliance (PN), not to make the election campaign a racial issue. He is citing false accusations about the tax exemption status of the Yayasan Al-Bukhary Foundation.
Lim Guan Eng’s warning to Muhyiddin
Lim’s police report against Muhyiddin is intended to prevent this issue from becoming a campaign issue in the upcoming state elections. Lim emphasised the need for factual-based campaigns and warned against campaigning based on lies, using Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016 as an example.
On March 9, Muhyiddin accused Lim of cancelling the tax exemption status of the Yayasan Al-Bukhary Foundation when he was the finance minister. SPRM raised the issue of an appeal against the revocation of tax exemption given to the foundation. Lim denied the accusations and challenged Muhyiddin to provide evidence of the cancellation.
Lim accuses Muhyiddin of intentionally spreading unhealthy sentiments by falsely accusing him of cancelling the tax exemption of a Muslim foundation that carries out charitable activities.
