In order to provide better and affordable services to the people, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that the government is reviewing all monopolies in the country. Anwar has directed all ministries to review the validity of their implementation to ensure a fair assessment of the issue.
Monopolies be gone!
He stressed the need for transparent economic development which involves the elimination of “obsolete and corrupt” practices that cater to specific interests within the context of monopolies. During his three-day visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Anwar stated that the government would continue to assist Bumiputera companies but only in a fair and transparent manner, allowing for fair competition among them.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that after Puspakom’s concession ends on August 31, 2024, all qualified parties will be allowed to provide vehicle inspection services to promote a competitive service industry.
