UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, has confirmed that his party has nominated Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, the UMNO Melaka Liaison Body Chairman, to become the new Chief Minister of Melaka. The Deputy Prime Minister also stated that the party has sent a letter to the Governor of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, requesting the acceptance of the resignation of the current Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

During a press conference held after the National Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development Council (MPUPK) meeting at the Parliament Building, Ahmad Zahid said that the party has proposed Datuk Seri Rauf as the new Chief Minister through the same letter sent to the Governor.
When questioned about the reason for Sulaiman’s resignation, Ahmad Zahid stated that it was due to health reasons. The party’s proposal for a new Chief Minister has sparked anticipation, with the public expected to soon learn who will lead Melaka.
