Former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s legal team plans to use the dissenting judgement by Federal Court judge Justice Abdul Rahman Sebli in his bid for a Royal pardon.
Najib Razak seeking royal pardon
According to his lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, the team is including the minority judgement in their pardon application. They argue that Najib Razak did not receive a fair trial as he was not given a chance to be heard by the Federal Court, which instead heard only the prosecution. Shafee emphasised that their pardon request is not an admission of guilt, but rather a matter of justice.
The majority decision, which dismissed Najib’s bid to review his conviction and sentence in the RM42mil SRC International Sdn Bhd case, will also be sent to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for comparison. The pardon application is expected to be submitted within a week.
