Chan Peng Soon and Cheah Yee See have overcome their early-round jinx to reach the quarter-finals of the Orleans Masters in France. The independent pair defeated China’s Cheng Xing-Chen and Fang Hui 21-14, 21-16 in the second round on Thursday.
Peng Soon-Yee See break their losing streak
Peng Soon and Yee See had been struggling to get past the first or second round of their previous tournaments, including the Korea Masters, India International Series, and Hyderabad Open. They had also lost to Cheng and Fang in their last encounter at the Russian Open in 2017.
However, they showed improvement and confidence in their game as they dominated their Chinese opponents from start to finish. They will face another Chinese pair, Zheng Siwei and Zhang Shu Xian, in the last eight on Friday.
Medal Aim At Orleans Masters
Peng Soon and Yee See are aiming to win their first medal together at the Orleans Masters, which is a Super 100 event under the BWF World Tour. They have been partnering since 2016 and have won one title at the Russian Open in 2017.
They are also hoping to qualify for the World Championships in Spain later this year. They are currently ranked 35th in the world and need to be in the top 24 by June 2023 to secure a spot.
