Ford has been given permission by the UK Department for Transport to activate its BlueCruise self-driving system, making it the first European country to allow autonomous cars on public roads.
The system, available only on the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle, will allow drivers to take their hands off the wheel but requires them to remain attentive to their surroundings.
BlueCruise: UK Revolution
BlueCruise controls steering, acceleration, braking and lane positioning, and monitors road markings, speed signs and traffic conditions. It will be approved for use on 2,300 miles of motorways, and can operate up to a maximum speed of 80mph.
