The Kelantan Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) is urging the public to take precautions during the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration by wearing face masks and frequently washing hands.

MAIK’s advice to the public

Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz, Chairman of MAIK, stated that this is necessary due to the unhealthy air pollution index (IPU) and the rising cases of COVID-19 in Kelantan. The state is emphasizing the importance of preventive measures for maintaining good health, including wearing face masks and practicing regular handwashing. As the festive season is expected to see an increase in the number of people returning to Kelantan, MAIK hopes that everyone will celebrate Aidilfitri safely.

The religious agency extends its well wishes for a happy and healthy celebration, and prays for the well-being and safety of all. On April 18, Kota Bharu, the capital of Kelantan, recorded an IPU of 104, which increased to 150 by 10 a.m. Moreover, there was a significant increase of 313% in new COVID-19 infections in Kelantan during the 13th epidemiological week from March 26 to April 1 compared to the previous week.
