With some lanes closed for various petty reasons, the Johor MB Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who did a surprise check at the CIQ in Johor bordering Singapore, was unhappy. He expects 2 million people to cross the borders this weekend for Raya.
Red Faced
In a video published on social media indeed, some immigration officials are left red-faced for what the MB seems to qualify as their incompetence. He is heard saying he does not want to hear any excuses. Traditionally, Malaysians like to joke that officials will have multiple ‘teh Tarik’ sessions or toilet sessions in a day. This used to be a joke about the old Proton factories too.
2 Million People Too Many?
He was told by the official that it was due to staff being on “shift rotation”, rest breakers, or at prayers; as well as “technical issues”. But the MB retorted that this lack of people manning the gates is not-acceptable and has been going on for too long.
