Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has stated that Yayasan Albukhary does not need to appeal regarding the tax exemption to him if it is not revoked by the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance.
Letter in 2021
Muhyiddin claimed that he saw a letter from the Ministry of Finance to Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary in 2021, informing that the foundation’s appeal against LHDN’s decision to deny tax exemptions and impose penalties was approved. Muhyiddin further explained that Yayasan Albukhary was granted approval for tax exemption under Section 127(3A) of the Income Tax Act 1967 by the previous government led by Barisan Nasional.
Muhyiddin’s Tax Exemptions Details
When he became Prime Minister, he received a letter from Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar appealing against LHDN’s decision, which he referred to the Minister of Finance for consideration. Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who was the Minister of Finance at that time, approved the appeal. In a recent defamation lawsuit filed by former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, the former PM was accused of making false statements for the purpose of diverting public attention.
