Uni-MLC has called on the Human Resources Ministry to develop a new labour policy that addresses post-Covid-19 challenges. Its president Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal recommended increasing the employers contribution rate to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) from 13% to 20% for employees with a salary of RM4,000 and below, to ensure they have sufficient savings for retirement.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says that there is a proposal for employers to contribute 20% towards the Employer’s Provident Fund (EPF) to be increased to 20 per cent compared to the current 13 per cent, but it has not yet been discussed at the Cabinet level.

The matter is among the 12 recommendations for the government to consider by the Malaysian International Trade Union Network Council in conjunction with the Labor Day 2023 celebration yesterday.
