Dr. Ahmad Rafee Che Kassim, the Deputy Director-General of Education (Curriculum and Basic Sector), said that schools can apply for temporary closure during extremely hot weather. This would mean that Home-Based Teaching and Learning Sessions (PdPR) will not be conducted.
Malaysia’s hot weather problem
However, the school days may be replaced according to the date set by the respective State Education Directors. The replacement dates will be announced by the State Education Director, and KPM allows students and teachers to wear sports t-shirts during school sessions in solidarity with teachers.
The KPM’s guidelines state that if the temperature exceeds 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days, school closure mechanisms will be applied. The decision will be based on the daily report issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia). All parties, especially those in schools, should monitor the health of students and teachers and avoid activities outside the classroom during hot weather.
