In our minds, we always think that developed western countries like Australia and Germany would have a lower work life balance rate due to their higher salaries. However, a Malaysian man states that while working in these countries, the stress levels are significantly lesser than that of Malaysia’s.
According to the Sun Daily, Malaysians are one of the most overworked people in the world. Over 50% of working Malaysians are having sleep deprivation issues. Additionally, there has been a 3x increase in mental health related issues among the working force in the country. These are all coupled with low pay, and with little to no bonuses for a good chunk of the working force.
Better work life balance in Australia and Germany?
The netizen states that after 6pm in countries like Australia, there are no more calls, no emails, and if a Whatsapp message is needed, an apology will come through. Furthermore, the netizen adds that there is usually a 13th month bonus and coupled with the fact that during a holiday, nobody will disturb you. This is in fact considered as a perfect example of good work life balance.
Another netizen complains about their time in JPN where their manager asked why he left his office early, even though it was 8:30pm. He stated that he left his job afterwards, and adds that this was during the time before Whatsapp was mainstream.
Some Twitter users state that in a local company, they’d tend to have Whatsapp groups. However, a lot of them would gossip or have random chats with each other in said groups after working hours, which can be excruciating to read.
Will Malaysia ever accept having a proper work life balance, especially in the corporate sector? Or will we continue on the hard work no life track for generations to come?Read more breaking and trending stories from @LatestMalaysia
