Mismanagement of Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) has been the primary cause of unresolved water issues in Kelantan. Minister of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, acknowledged this fact, emphasizing that funding alone cannot solve the problem if AKSB’s governance is not addressed.

The minister expressed the government’s commitment to examine Kelantan’s willingness to allow federal assistance in resolving the water crisis. Despite claims of water scarcity, Nik Nazmi pointed out that Kelantan’s water demand is not as high as in other states. Deputy Menteri Besar, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, cited financial constraints as the major challenge, with the initial estimated cost of RM2 billion having increased to RM7 billion.
