The Cyprus Cabinet made a decision yesterday to withdraw the citizenship status of businessman Low Taek Jho, who is currently on the run. The cancellation of his passport was confirmed by sources, stating that it was based on the recommendation of the Minister of Interior, Nicos Nouris.
Jho Low rejected by Cyprus
However, the Cabinet did not revoke citizenship from any other individuals. The decision was reportedly made after the Minister of Interior received new information about Jho Low. Previously, the Cyprus government had concluded that there was insufficient evidence to revoke his citizenship.
Jho Low, implicated in the 1MDB scandal, obtained Cypriot citizenship in 2015. Investigations into the country’s citizenship by investment program revealed that a significant portion of granted citizenship statuses between 2007 and 2020 did not comply with the law.
