Liverpool midfielder James Milner has revealed that the club overruled manager Jurgen Klopp’s desire to offer him a new contract.

James, who will leave Anfield this summer after his current deal expires, joined Liverpool in 2015 and has since won seven Premier League titles with the team.

While Klopp wanted the player to stay, the club decided against offering him a new contract. He is among five players leaving Liverpool at the end of their contracts, and he is currently in talks with Brighton and Leeds, with the latter being his former academy club. Among those leaving are Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are departing as free agents, while Arthur Melo is joining another club.
