The American-born star was naturalised a Swiss citizen, renouned her American citizenship and moved to Europe. She was 83 when she died. She was married to Erwin Bach, a German record producer.

She sold more than 180 million albums and won 12 Grammy Awards. Turner was regarded as a rock music pioneer and a role model for overcoming a tragic past that includes an abusive relationship with her ex-husband and manager Ike Turner. She divorced the singer in 1978 and afterwards married Bach.
