Former UMNO leader Khairy Jamaluddin has filed a defamation lawsuit worth RM1 million against UMNO Sungai Besar chief Jamal Md Yunos. The lawsuit was filed by Khairy’s lawyer in the Kuala Lumpur High Court on May 24.

It revolves around Jamal’s press conference during the UMNO General Assembly on January 14, where he accused Khairy of attempting to bring “phantom voters” to the assembly. Khairy alleges that Jamal’s statements portrayed him as lacking integrity and credibility, involved in corruption for personal gain, causing him to lose business opportunities and public trust.
He is seeking RM1 million in special damages and additional compensation. Khairy also demands that Jamal retract his statements on social media and issue apologies. The lawsuit’s management will be handled in the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
