He mentioned that Professor Dato’ Dr Ahmad Murad Merican’s academic paper, titled ‘The 1786 Acquisition of Pulau Pinang,’ revisits the work of R. Bonney, a historian, in ‘Kedah 1771-1821: The Search for Security and Independence,’ which discusses the acquisition of Penang from Kedah.

He emphasized that historical facts cannot be altered and questioned whether the views of national and international historians would also be considered provocative. Yesterday, Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi, during a media session held in conjunction with the signing of the Land and Maritime Boundary Agreement (Kedah and Perlis), stated that there is no border between Penang and Kedah because the state rightfully belongs to Kedah.
