Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub yesterday said that the ministry’s enforcement team has faced death threats from certain parties while monitoring a cartel’s cooking oil smuggling activities in the country.

Malay daily Sinar Harian reported Salahuddin (see video below on what Salahuddin said) as saying that such threats will not stop authorities from continuing to crackdown on smuggling activities.

‘Is there leakage in (cooking oil supply) or malpractice? Yes, I don’t want to be a hypocrite minister. So we face it. How to face it, that’s our skill (expertise), our method, because these are industry players.” Salahuddin vows, adding, “You can’t simply bulldoze, they are suppliers,” he said during a townhall programme that took place at the Karangkraf Group Complex.
