A heroic Nepali Sherpa guide saved a Malaysian climber who was found hanging from a rope in the treacherous “death zone” of Mount Everest. The climber was discovered shivering in the extreme cold, with temperatures dropping as low as -30°C.

The death zone, located above the last camp South Col at 8,000 meters, is known for its thin air, high winds, and icy slopes, making rescues nearly impossible.

However, on May 18, 2023, 30-year-old Gelje Sherpa, while guiding a Chinese client, selflessly convinced his client to abandon their summit attempt to save the stranded climber. Gelje’s courageous act was captured in a video he shared on Instagram.
