Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson, is set to join Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, after Liverpool agreed to a £12m fee, plus add-ons, with the club managed by Steven Gerrard. The 33-year-old midfielder was left out of Liverpool’s first friendly match in Germany against Karlsruher SC, indicating a breakthrough in negotiations.
Henderson’s transfer to Al-Ettifaq finalized
He is expected to sign a two-year contract with a third-year option, on significantly higher wages than his current £200,000 per week at Liverpool. Initially hesitant to move his family to Saudi Arabia, Al-Ettifaq’s offer prompted him to reconsider.
Liverpool is also in talks with Al-Ittihad regarding Fabinho’s potential exit for around £40m. Liverpool’s official LGBT+ fans group, Kop Outs, has expressed concern about Henderson moving to a country where homosexuality is illegal, considering his support for the LGBTQ+ community.
