The anticipated Terry Fox Run is making a comeback, with an expected participation of 3,000 individuals at the Kepong Metropolitan Park in Kuala Lumpur on September 9. This annual event, dedicated to cancer research, commemorates Terry Fox, who ran across Canada in 1980 during his “Marathon of Hope” to raise funds for cancer research after losing his leg to osteogenic sarcoma at 18.

Cancer Research Malaysia, the licensed organizer of the Terry Fox Run in Malaysia, collaborates with the Terry Fox Foundation to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. This year, participants will receive special medals in recognition of their commitment to fighting cancer. The event’s success has inspired plans to expand beyond the Klang Valley to Melaka and Penang.
During the launch, the Four Seasons Hotel presented a mock cheque of RM43,100, raised through their own Terry Fox Fun Run in May, to Cancer Research Malaysia. This organization has a remarkable track record of impactful achievements, such as developing the first Malaysian-made oral vaccine and building an AI-powered mobile app for early detection of oral cancer. Participants who donate RM50 and above will receive exclusive T-shirts designed by Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, with all proceeds supporting cancer research initiatives.
