European football clubs are requesting assurances that they will receive full payment for the substantial transfer fees agreed upon with Saudi Arabian clubs. This follows a summer marked by unprecedented spending on players like Neymar, Rúben Neves, Fabinho, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Riyad Mahrez.

Furthermore, Saudi clubs now account for 11% of total yearly sales in Europe’s top divisions, totaling €878m. Concerns about non-payment have been raised at the European Club Association’s general assembly, and clubs are seeking leverage over their Saudi counterparts to protect themselves.
These concerns have arisen despite the fact that UEFA’s financial licensing regulations may not apply to deals outside Europe.
