The Arts, Live Festival, and Events Association (ALIFE Malaysia) expressed concern about the newly introduced 25% entertainment tax affecting city events.
They acknowledged the previous tax exemption by Selangor but cited a lack of clear communication from Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Selangor’s authorities regarding the tax’s details.

Others are shocked at the new tax. Some state that this will hurt the local arts scene even further. Furthermore, there are claims that these organizers would find it hard to make profits, especially when there are more taxes for them to pay.
