The Local Government Development ministry is requesting an RM300 million allocation for the coming budget to build “BMW (bersih, menawan, wangi” public toilets nationwide, says Nga Kor Ming. The BMW means (clean, captivating, and fragrant). “We also seek RM100 million to replace conventional street lights with LED or solar-powered bulbs,” says Minister Nga Kor Ming. If you thought it meant toilets that look like BMWs, then you must be sorely disappointed. LOL.

The new standard for public toilets is part of the national utility reform agenda. Earlier this year, Nga also announced that the ministry would recognize the best public toilet with the ‘Toilet of the Year’ award. Budget 2024 is expected to be presented on October 13th.
