Viral Claypot Rice Seller Says He Does Not Use Non-Halal Ingredients

In a recent controversy surrounding a viral claypot chicken rice seller, Ahmad Muzakin Mohd Amir faced allegations of using non-halal ingredients, specifically rice wine, in his cooking. The 48-year-old restaurant owner in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, vehemently denied these claims. He clarified that the supposed “rice wine” in question was actually sesame oil, commonly used in Chinese cuisine but not certified halal.

He emphasized that his restaurant had been visited by JAKIM and maintained that while he lacked a JAKIM halal certificate, he had a strong sense of responsibility as a Muslim and never concealed his ingredients. The chicken used, he assured, came from a halal source.
