The fire involving a Proton X90 last month was caused by a grounding connection issue, Proton confirms, adding that it was the fault of the battery used in the car. All owners of the said model, however, will be contacted individually by the brand’s 3S and 4S dealers to bring their vehicles in for inspection, it adds.

The carmaker says remedial action is being taken by the service centre to eliminate any thermal risk if required. The company further reaffirms that the mild hybrid battery used for the X90model was not the cause of the incident.
