Wan Ji Wan Hussin, an independent preacher, has commenced a nine-month jail term after the Court of Appeal rejected his final appeal against a sedition conviction related to remarks made against the Sultan of Selangor in 2012. The court reinstated the session’s court sentence, issuing a committal warrant for his imprisonment.

The bench, chaired by Justice Hadhariah Syed Ismail, emphasized that Wan Ji’s appeal lacked merit and clarified that the Sedition Act was not unconstitutional despite his challenge. While the Federal Constitution protects freedom of expression, the court deemed Wan Ji’s words inappropriate in this context.
