Electoral watchdog Bersih criticized the unity government for undermining fair elections in the lead-up to the Pelangai state polls. They specifically targeted deputy education minister Lim Hui Ying for announcing additional funding for three Pelangai schools during the election period, deeming it contrary to the principles of clean and fair elections.

While not illegal, the organisation argued that the move provided the government an unfair advantage. They suggested that allocating additional resources to all vernacular schools in Pahang, rather than only in Pelangai, would have avoided such concerns.
