The construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project tunnel between Bentong to Gombak in Section Seven for a distance of 16.39 kilometres in Bukit Tinggi makes it the longest in Southeast Asia. So far, it has achieved 20 per cent progress since excavation began in June last year. ECRL Section Seven Public Relations Officer, S. Thilakumar says, among the 12 tunnels, the Genting Tunnel which is under construction is the longest train track in Asia at 16.39km.

“Currently the twin type tunnel has started drilling operations using Tunnel Boring Machine 1 (TBM1) starting in June 2022 and TBM2 in November 2022 to penetrate the Titiwangsa Range in Bukit Tinggi and exit in the Selangor state near the International Islamic University, Gombak,” he says.
