Terengganu: Gymnasts can’t wear form-fitting attire that reveal body shape now

The Terengganu state government has decided not to participate in the women’s gymnastics event at the 2024 Malaysian Games due to concerns related to non-compliant Shariah attire. They are also addressing similar issues in other sports segments, such as non-compliant bicycle event.

Hishamuddin, the Chairperson of Terengganu Youth, Sports, and NGOs, explained that gymnastics requires form-fitting attire that may reveal body shape, and they are pursuing a Shariah-friendly approach to bring about necessary changes. They acknowledge the challenges in enforcing Shariah-compliant outfits in line with international standards and are focusing on education and awareness for athletes.
