Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore announced his intention to hand over leadership to Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong before the next GE, which is due to take place no later than Nov. 23, 2025. He expressed full confidence in Wong and cited the importance of leadership renewal for the People’s Action Party (PAP) and Singapore.
PM Lee emphasized the need for an exceptional team of leaders who could deliver good government alongside political mastery. He also explained that his succession plans are back on track, with PAP Members of Parliament endorsing Wong as their leader, and the only remaining decision is when the handover will occur.
